Novena (from Latin: novem, "nine") is an ancient tradition of devotional prayer repeated for nine successive days. The nine days between the Feast of the Ascension and Pentecost, when the disciples gathered in the Upper Room and devoted themselves to prayer, is often considered to be the first novena.
The Holy Spirit Novena may be prayed at any time throughout the year when one desires a deeper outpouring of the Spirit's Gifts. CONSIDERATION: Offer the Novena for a loved one preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation!
According to St. Gertrude (1256–1301), the Blessed Virgin Mary promised...
“To any soul who faithfully prays the Three Hail Marys, I will appear at the hour of death in a splendor of beauty so extraordinary that it will fill the soul with Heavenly consolation.”

According to Marian revelations received by St. Mechtilde in the 13th century, the Blessed Mother promised that any soul who faithfully prays this devotion will receive her intercession at the hour of death, including protection from hostile powers, illumination of wisdom, and the transformation of the bitterness of death into divine sweetness.
